Bermagui Fisherman's Wharf Growers Market

SCPA recently paired up with Sweet Home Cobargo's Tam Pavelic to attend the inaugural Bermagui Fisherman's Wharf Growers Market on the 4th December, 2014.

Like the SAGE Farmers Market at Moruya, the Bermagui event started at 3pm with the ringing of an old school bell. I used to be the bell ringer at school, so what memories came flooding back!

People were ready to start trading at 3pm which caught us a little on the hop, and from 3pm to 6pm there was a steady, and busy, trade with lots of goodwill, plenty of people looking for a deal and a great atmosphere including a whacking great thunderstorm.

The SCPA stall had Seedsavers seeds and 2015 Seedsavers calendars, PIP magazine and the 2015 permaculture calendar, Sara Bear's Chilli Sauce, Christa Rehwinkel's seedlings, Thea Constantiridis' produce and the ever present SCPA News mailing list signup sheet on which we got 30 new subscribers - a record for a single market event.

Other stalls featuring wholly local produce included a paella stand complete with an authentic spaniard Chef and partner, cakes and cookies, honey, olives, wines, oysters shucked to order, sausages, organic meats, bread, seedlings, muesli, fruit and vegetables and more.

With Tilba, Cobargo, Bega and now Bermagui markets there are great choices for local food at local markets in the Bega Valley.

The South East 'came of age' on December the 4th. With the new market at Bermagui, with so much great local food activity in the Triangle and with SCPA involved so heavily - this was a really good news story. The next market is Thursday 18th December and then the first 4 Thursdays in January. Dates following to be advised...
