Plant Protection Workshop

Managing Pests, Diseases and Weeds without Pesticides

This one day course looks at why pests and diseases attack plants and how growers can boost the natural ability of plants to resist attack. Soil fertility and biodiversity are important keys. Pesticides are no answer because they increase vulnerability, though some recipes for non-toxic pest and disease control are provided. Weediness too is associated with soil fertility but also with lack of ground cover. Particular weeds can indicate nutrient deficiencies in the soil. While some unwanted plants are inevitable, there are techniques that minimise their impact.
